Kennebunkport, Maine

We plan on camping in Kennebunkport, Maine for 10 days. I would like to hear from those who have stayed in this area as to what we should have on the list of things to see and places to eat. The list could include areas that would be an hour to hour and a have hour away. Thanks in advance for your input.
  • We stayed at Libbys in York last June, so we only went to Kbunk a few times, some neat shopping, and ate at The Stripers, which had some great Adirondack chairs for sitting around outside for a bit. A great Lobster menu, which includes a lobster pie! Drive also down to Ogunquit to see a different, more folk crafty kind of shop and some lunch places on the water that are pretty good,( not fantastic). Further south, go to Nubble Lighthouse for a fantastic evening view, and our favorite restaurant which was Fox Lobster House. Hidden in York, is the Dockside Restaurant with a great bar, local draft beers and an elegant menu if you want it, or fine bar treats also!
If you're into a fantastic Sunday Buffet Brunch, head up to Freeport, to the Harraseeket Inn, this one includes split lobster beside all the other great buffet foods for one price. Then walk it off at the LL Bean flagship store. You might also consider Kittery outlet malls, but I think that I have had it with enough malls in my life. Have a great trip, the people up there aa fantastic, helpful and fun. ( I guess that you can tell that we love lobster)
  • First and foremost you will need a toad/rental to explore the majority of the towns in that area. There's little to no RV parking in most of them. We do day trips to that area fairly frequently. Kennebunkport has some great restaurants and lots of shopping. Portland is about an hour away-sailing, whale watching, shopping and dining are great. South of there (not even an hour) lies Ogunquit with one of the best beaches in the state, York and Old Orchard beaches and tourist attractions, and Kittery Trading Post in Kittery. Bath, ME has a maritime museum, Portsmouth, NH has historical attraction such as Strawberry Banke as well as some water activities. Bessie's Diner in Ogunquit and Bob's Clam Shack in Kittery are two of my favorites. For high-end dining try Street and Company in Portland but make a reservation if you want a guaranteed seat.
