kentucky campgrounds

looking for a nice kid and pet friendly campground in southern Kentucky for around the end of march/beginning of april. full hookup. This will be our base camp for us as we will be going out and traveling around Kentucky and Tennessee. Thanks for any suggestions.
  • You might check out Dale Hollow State park on the Kentucky / Tennessee border. It has full hookup sites, playground, lodge with dining and is on the lake. Not sure of the exact date they open for the spring though. We were there in April last year.
  • Big South Fork is a great area and the scenery in that part of TN and KY is nicer than farther west, IMO. Water and electric, not sure about sewer. Check out the Blue Heron mining village, historic town of Rugby and the Depression era Cumberland Mtn Homesteads in nearby Crossville TN.
  • Levi Jackson is a very nice place not far from Cumberland Falls

Pine Mountain or Cumberland Falls state parks, both close to the border.

Also, look atBig South Fork Natl Rec Area.
  • There you have it: three locations at entirely different points of the state. Western, Land Between the Lakes--good. Central, Barren River State Resort Park--good. Eastern, Cove Lake State Park--I'm sure it is good.

But only one will work for you and that depends on the area you wish to visit in Kentucky/Tennessee.
  • Might look at Cove Lake TN St Park at exit 35 of I 75 just over the KY border. Close to the Appalachian Museum, Oak Ridge, and Knoxville. Easy access and close to Lafollette facilities and Norris Lake.

    Never Mind
  • One where we have stayed is the Barren River State Resort Park. Of course, it all depends on which parts of Kentucky/Tennessee you want to visit.
