Looking for to do ideas in Hot Springs AR/ Dallas TX please!

Hey all-
We are leaving July 3 for 5 nights in Hot Springs and 6 nights in Dallas. We are looking for suggestions for to do attractions.

I have children aged 3, 7 and 9. We enjoy outdoor activities (hiking, swimming, sight seeing, scenic drives, etc) and typical kid touristy stuff (aquariums, zoos, etc).

We are looking for things in the cities above, as well as up to 2 hour drive day trips.

We are definitely hitting Hot Springs National Park, so looking for suggestions there such as good moderate hiking, waterfalls etc. looking for other things in that area as well.

We are also definitely hitting Hurricane Harbor and possibly Great Wolf Lodge while in Dallas. Looking for more to do there too

I thank you in advance, as you guys always come through with great suggestions for us!
  • We travelled through both areas within the last 10 days. Everyone has covered Hot Springs pretty well, we did drive down to Crater of Diamonds to dig for a diamond, we didn't find any but it was fun. We also entertained ourselves in one of the oldest spa's in Hot Springs, can't think of the name but there a several in a row. In Dallas we went to Dealy Plaza and the 6th floor museum and took the JFK bus tour. Very interesting, we spent over 2 hours going through the museum. We ate at the Gas Monkey Bar n Grill, very good food, friendly staff and knowledgeable about the Gas Monkey garage crew. We went to Billy Bobs bar and grill but went to early in the afternoon so there was no live entertainment. We found Dallas fairly easy to get around in. We stayed at the KOA in Arlington which was a good, clean campground. Have fun!!
  • Dallas area suggestions - Arlington/ tour the Cowboy stadium, watch the Rangers play baseball, Six Flags Over Texas, Hurricane Harbor. Dallas/ tour South Fork Ranch, 6th floor museum. Fort Worth/ stock yards, Grapevine Mills Mall has Legoland and a new aquarium in it. This site will help with the area - http://www.dfwandbeyond.com/
  • Near Hot Springs is Garvan Woodlands Botanical Garden that you might find interesting.

But I do have one idea that is a little outside your two hour drive limit but which your kids will love. Blanchard Springs Caverns is one of the best caves I have been in and would be worth the three hour drive to get there. There's also a great picnic area a couple of miles down the road from the caverns right on Sylamore Creek. The creek isn't very deep in most places and a great place for kids to frolic and wade in the water. Between the caverns and the picnic area, this is a great way to spend a full day away from Hot Springs and full of activities that the kids will really enjoy. A little cooler there, too.
  • My husband was born in Hot Springs and we go there every year. Here are some ideas: Magic Springs Crystal Falls Theme & Water Park. Gangster Museum (small) downtown. Hot Springs Mountain Tower (also have hiking trail). Grand Promenade paved walk between Bathhouse Row and the mountain. Zip Line. Mid America Science Museum. Lake Catherine State Park (hiking, biking). Superlift Offroad Vehicle Park. Funtrackers Family Park (gocarts, putt putt golf). Arkansas Alligator Farm and Petting Zoo very old small park that's been there forever. My husband's father helped capture the 13' gator that's stuffed there. Some people think it's "hokey" but we still love it. Drive to: Crater of Diamonds State Park, Petit Jean Mountain State Park and Blanchard Springs Cavern near Mountain View.
Dallas-Fort Worth TX: Forth Worth Stockyards (all day) and Rodeo. Zoo, Aquarium, Grapevine Vintage RR, Six Flags & Water Park, Legoland Discovery Center. Enjoy your trip!
