Matagorda Bay Nature & RV Park

In looking at some of the suggestions in my earlier post I investigated Matagorda Bay. It looks like a spot we would really enjoy. I went on line at look at availability for the first week of Feburary and found 53 sites available for the 4 nights I had selected. Is there something wrong, like is it flooded or something?
  • Hmmm...that does sound odd. Contact the LCRA, 800 776 5272 and ask them the same question (I guess they still manage it). We were there several years ago in the summer and it was a busy place. The pier and day use does bring more crowd. It is located on the point where the Colorado River meets Matagorda Bay. Christmas, we went over the Colorado several times in Cen. TX and it looked pretty low.
I looked at the web page and saw no issues or notices about the park.
  • There is no protection from the wind, and when it cranks up coming out of the gulf it isn't a real fun place to be. Beautiful park when the weather is on your side but in Feb it can get a bit nasty or a absolutely perfect. Great fishing in the area to boot!
  • Ok....thanks for the updates. I think what we will do is keep this on the radar screen and if the stars all align.....we will go last minute. Basically using its a way to extend our time in the area if the weather cooperates.

You can have four seasons in one day in February in coastal South Texas. Haven't been to this park yet, but it's on my (non-Spring Break) bucket list.
  • Nothing wrong other than time of year so it will be cold, windy and possibly wet. We love camping there however if you want something in that same area, just a few miles up the same river is Riverside RV Park. We have stayed there in the dead of winter and summer as well. Will ride Jet Skis from there down to Matagorda to eat or Matagoda Bay Nature Center for some beach time

If your interested with a different location on the beach, check out Sandpiper Resort. It's fairly new
and across the street from the beach on Galveston Island.
  • The park is a nice one and the weather in February is not bad we are not in Michigan .Try it and you will like it.Good place to go fishing.
  • buc1980 is right, I wasn't thinking about you being from Michigan. What's cold to us is probably not a big deal to you although our cold is wet and yours is dry. I lived in my RV for one winter in Monroe Michigan, that was a bad winter, got down to -20 at night and zero during the day for about three weeks. Fun fun.
