Any recommendations on a park to use as a base for a week in Moab? I have two 12-year-old boys so pool or water access, room to roam etc will be a plus.

My trailer is 27 ft and we may have a small dog (undecided yet)

I agree it is time to let it go. No park is perfect in all respects.

I have a Verizon mifi that is out of contract and converted it over (with no charge) to a pay as you go plan. Works great for the 3-4 months a year we travel. I if tried to rely on RV park Wifi it would drive me batty. I also need to do banking on the road and would never not use my own secure connection for that.

There were all kinds of places all around and even close to them that were working; like across the road. They also admitted at one point that they had been having a lot of problems and were hoping to get a fiber optic cable in to fix it. For a while they even told me it worked just fine and must be my computer. He then went to their public computer in the lobby to show me. Guess what? It did not work. He walked away.

Staff people confirmed the issues. Said they knew about them.

OK, he was not lying; just less than truthful, OK?

Lauren, you accuse a business of lying and you have no idea if they are, or not. There are a multitude of reasons that the campground and the surrounding area, or the entire town, could be having internet issues, and the McDonalds, several miles away, is working just fine. Unless you got the information straight from the local network provider, how the heck do you know if you were lied to, or not?
You have been bashing Spanish Trails for a long time, here on the forum. It might be time to get over it. As many have stated, and you can't seem to process, if you have a NEED for internet access, you have a responsibility to provide it for yourself. There isn't a campground owner in north america that will tell you that you have anything close to reasonable expectations on this issue. Due to the exponential growth in data consumption, even brand new local networks at campgrounds are obsolete, and overloaded, within a few years. Now add a few clowns attempting to stream movies, and it's game over. It always has been, and will continue to be a problem in the near future.

As I stated in another one of your rants attempting to damage the place, like most reasonable people, the DW and I spent a week there last summer, and found it to be real nice park with decent folks in the office. I wouldn't hesitate to return or recommend it. OTOH, I do have rational expectations on everything from the NEED to provide my own internet, to the fact that stuff happens, including things like water pipes breaking, and other small inconveniences.

Might be time to quit flogging this dead horse, particularly since you are attacking a decent, well run CG, not some poorly run dump, and as you may of noted, generating nothing but a long list of reply calling you out on the fact.

I second Portal RV. My kids enjoyed canoeing in the ponds and chasing fish.

We stayed at Portal RV last year. Very clean, well maintained park. They have 2 sides... a regular side and a resort side. The resort side has nicer lots and landscaping and has a pool and spa. The non-resort side has a swimming pond. Pets are welcome on both sides. It is located on Hwy 191,maybe a mile or so north of the business section of Moab.

Which RV park is going to condos?

Riverside. Their website apparently already says they have closed. That's a shame. It is convenient to town, right along the river, lots of big trees. We didn't drive into it, but the shade sure looked inviting!

If you can't find anything in Moab, the KOA in Green River is ok. Plenty of big sites, some with shade ๐Ÿ™‚ (do I sound obsessed?), and hookups, of course. It's not super convenient, but a fairly easy drive (less than an hour, if memory serves) to Arches NP.

Will agree with Lauren on the wifi, was just there last week an couldn't get logged in once. Also it doesn't have a pool. Other than that liked the shade trees, was clean an well kept.

WiFi not working led to dishonesty / ethics issues. They blatantly lied telling me that wifi was bad / down throughout town. Took the laptop down to McDonalds and it worked fine. And even tried one other place and fine.

I need wifi at times for important reasons. I have wound up at places that have marginal wifi - and I might have expected better - but they are upfront with me and even suggest where I might go close by to meet my needs. I would never, ever badmouth someone who did that.

Add to that the huge water leak in their irrigation system that they could not get fixed while we were there though they fiddled with it off and on. And more.

My main issue with them, as it would be any business I deal with, is lack of honesty / ethics. It is not the way I was raised, not the way I did business and not what I do in my personal life.

That may be seen as "one issue" but it was more and dishonesty is not an issue, it is business conduct.

Many of you know me on here very well. I am honest and I really do not complain unless there is real justification.

We have been to 178 different RV parks and I have only registered complaints on 2 in the over 18 years we have been part time RVing. Both on ethics issues.

For what it is worth, now you know the basics.

OK, time to grill dinner.

Because you have one issue with a RV park it's no reason to tell everyone to stay away. That's my take.

Our experience at Spanish Trail was not as negative as Lauren's. We did like the shade; the only shadier CGs seemed to be Canyonlands, in the middle of town, and another one at the north end of town which is being converted to condos. Best place to camp in the area, IMO, is probably Dead Horse Point SP, but there's no shade, the CG is small and really big rigs won't fit, and it's not centrally located. You will need advance reservations, regardless of what you choose.

We too found Spanish Trail to be a nice place. However, based on the general tone of Lauren's posts (which are many), I have to assume something significant did occur. I'm glad it didn't happen to me.

Seemed to be about Wi-Fi or lack there of - many people seem to still depend on campground Wi-Fi - big mistake - mainly because a few stream movies etc. and ruin it for the rest of us - Used Verizon Mifi device for years now and very happy

If you look at tripadvisor and camp ground reviews the combined two sites have 223 reviews with 180 of them being excellent to very good

Do you believe one vocal person or 180 ?

Not questioning either, didn't mean to sound that way. I'd go back to Spanish Trail without hesitation. However, Lauren does not seem to be one that complains without reason (based on his posts), so I was just wondering what the nature of the problem was. Obviously, it wasn't an issue I encountered.
