We need to stay here for about a week for a family emergancy. I have looked at maps but they were not very clear. Could someone give me clear directions to this park from I-65 at the Tenn. Ala. state line? Thanks a lot.

Thanks to all. We may opt for the campground at the space center since most of our time will be at the hospital with little time at the campground.

Yeah, I agree. This is probably a better way in for you, Limit4. Just be aware you won't see any signs for the park when you first get off the interstate. Just hang in there and don't make any turns until you get half way up a mountain, then look for the Monte Sano signs. Also, at the top you'll have a right hand turn, watch for it.

Good luck

OK I agree it is not an RV resort. I think it has had some repair since 2014. It is conveient to restaurents and shopping also
rv lots. It is not right on the hiwaay and should be reletivly
quiet. It is not a state Park, meaning in the deep woods.

You might be able to get pictures from the web site. google al space
and rocket center Huntsville.

I wouldn't recommend it, at least if it's still in the same shape it was in October of '14. I thought it was poorly maintained and in rough shape.

Alabama Space and Rocket Center has a nice little campground

Coming South on I-65 - take I-565 toward Huntsville.
Take exit 19C. Merge left onto Washington Street NW, then turn right onto Pratt Ave. NW. At this point you will see signs to Montesano State Park.
Continue on Pratt - it becomes Bankhead Pkwy NE. Follow the signs. Pretty steep hill on the way in, but roads are good.

Montesano is a nice park, but older, so some sites may be short. Mention the length of your camper when you check in. They will usually let you pick a site first.

Good luck

Do Not take Bankhead Pkwy. Take Memorial Pwky SE south to Governors Dr SW. Take Governors Dr up the mountain to Monte Sano Blvd at top of hill. Monte Sano has some WES sites so ask about that. It is older but we've never had a problem fitting.

What's wrong with Bankhead Pkwy? Been that way many times. Sure the hill up to Monte Sano is easier from Governor's, but I'm trying to make it easier on Limit4 who is not familiar with Huntsville.

First, there is no Memorial Pkwy SE. It's Memorial Pkwy SW. Then, there is no interchange from Memorial Pkwy SW to Governor's. The turn is from the frontage road. So if he goes that way, he needs to get to the frontage road off of 231. That's confusing to explain.

Heck, I started to bring him in using exit 17B to Governor's from I-565, but the signage is confusing that way. Just trying to make it easy for him.

Depending on rig size, the switchbacks on Bankhead Parkway can be ugly. I followed my GPS blindly and had to do those switchbacks within my first couple of weeks of owning a 42' fifth wheel. :E
