Not many women boondock? Why?

Well, just bounced in here and found this thread - pretty interesting perspectives from both men and women (those which we can ID anyway) -- and unfortunately, a bit of stereo-typing on both sides of the campfire.

Of interest to some: My S/O has been camping for years in campgrounds, with boats and trailers, generally, and raising her family before we met. A very active woman. We've been together three years. We camp in a 4x4 and Lance truck camper.

But, unfortunately sorta, she feels uncomfortable boon-docking. I have no idea why - well, she says she doesn't feel safe out there alone (well, with me) so, the camping days in my life have changed significantly because of that, and we most often stay in CG's, even though usually back-country NP and SP,and COE.

She holds a black-belt, teaches women's self defense (thirty years of that) and is heavily weapons trained. She still won't boon-dock much with me, although after three years together, it's getting a little better, and we go off now and again instead of in the CGs. My guess is it's part of aging too - as we're both seniors and retired. So, that's part of it. But it bothers me she's actually 'afraid' to boon-dock. She says it's the wildlife that worries her, but she has a tough time even in 'civilized' overnights while traveling - Walmart, Rest Stops, parking areas etc. SO, I'm guessing human wildlife bothers her too.

At any rate, I've seen plenty of men and women boon-docking over the years, pretty much in every state, and personally believe it's safer out in the woods than in some of the cities and towns. And, am glad to see some women feel safe and competent out there in the boonies - those that feel differently, will lose out on a lot of fun and interesting experiences.

As the OP, I sure didn't expect to solicit so many responses. It was heartening to know that women do boondock and they enjoy it with partners and solo. Happy Holidays to all and be safe.

Great Thread, I always wondered who Francesca Knowitall was.

I LOVE boondocking. In fact when we started this whole RV thing I was the one pushing hubby to try it out which he wasn't too keen to do (he now loves it too).

I often hike & explore by myself too. But then, I've always been that way and have traveled/lived in many countries on my own.

My DW collects fossils, right along with rocks, when we're out and about drycamping with the RV. (Together, BTW, cuz "I won't let her" do it alone.)

I've never noticed her showing any interest in collecting artifacts. Maybe it's because we're both one and can't recognize it in each other. ;)

You know, it's really kind of cute that guys like you are still out there... seems impossible, actually. But still: as American Artifacts, there's an important Socio-historical value to your continued existence!
