not snowbirding

We attend all grandkids events that we can, but we need time for ourselves too so we go and keep in touch. We didn't see one grandchild until she was a week old and by that time the visitors had been there and gone, so we got her all to ourselves. Nice.

My Grandfather was out making a living in 1905 and didn't get to see his 4th child until he was 6 weeks old. It happens.

Enjoy the new baby! It is amazing how we change our plans for our grandchildren. I am retired and husband is not. When he retires in a couple years we will not be snowbirds. We love the winters and snow...I know we are oddities but I can't wait for the first snow.

birth, birthday, graduation, Wedding, repeat....

I raised 2 ... a brother and a sister... so I did not have children...
same with wife except she is the oldest of 6.......

after all the nieces and nephews got past 13.. never heard from again.
We have lived in the same HOUSE for 38 years.
so we are retiring..... and all alone ... going south.. first time. in November.

so relatives are So overrated. or always wanting Money.

but THAT is US.. your life may be better. or different.

OP: I wonder if you'll have to stay home the next year, too - birthday, you know. :)

Guess I'm in a different situation when it comes to grand kids. When they reach their teens grand parents seem to be expendable. We at times become a PITA to them. I guess when they won't even figure out who you are until their one or two I could certainly keep my winter program for a couple of months.

You had to put up with all the headaches for your kids, let them put up with the headaches for theirs. Next thing you know you will become a free babysitting service, sitting at the window looking out at the snow, while your ungrateful kids go out to a dinner, you can no longer afford as pensioner, & enjoy themselves, possibly leading to the production of another of these obnoxious creatures who will eventually become a teenager or worse.

Another winter season out of the very limited number you have left (before you are too sick, old & stupid to do anything but stay home with a trickle of drool leaking out the corner of your mouth), spent in the cold & misery. This time with a screaming smelly primate descendant on your hands.

The Big hurry is for the second and third Grandchildren as someone has to care for the First Grandchild. Remember more grandchildren may be more cancelled trips south

And the cycle of life continues. TomG has it right, it's the grandmothers that get all crazy. I can only speak for mine of course, yours may vary.
