November CGs near Elkhart Goshen Nappanee?

Ebys Pines is closed.
Pla-Mor is closed.

I'm going to call some others. Does anyone know of an open CG, or even rustic/free camping? The weather is nice, and we want to visit there for two or three days.

That sound is not so great from 10PM to 7AM. Even leaving the TV on while sleeping doesn't drown out the trains. :(

I stayed there for a RV Rally. Never again. And I lived for 10 years one block from a train track.
  • I'll second/third the Elkhart County 4H Fairgrounds in Goshen. We stayed there two weeks this past September after getting work done on the rig in Elkhart. Great place to stay while we explored Amish country and rode the bike trails.

  • When we are in that area we stay at the Elkhart Fairgrounds Campground and the train noise did not bother us. It is going to be chilly so you probably would not have the windows open. I guess as long time full timers noise issues are nonexistent for us.

  • Shipshewanna Rv Park at the flea market is open until 11/15
  • We like the Elkhart Fairground campground.
After the first night - you don't hear the trains.
Office staff are very helpful and friendly.
  • Thanks DS! That is a better list than I have found.

I did find some freebies. I think we will stay one night at the Hall of Fame. I also found a Cracker Barrel that's okay with it, and one Wal-Mart between Goshen & Elkhart. The other WM on the SE side of Goshen says no. That's all I came up with for free camping.

Once we stayed in the visitor tours lot at Jayco in Middlebury. So I guess there are a number of overnight possibilities.

I read the reviews on the fairgrounds in Goshen. I get the impression the trains are pretty hard to deal with. Very close and very frequent.

We will probably use one of the CGs. I found the Elkhart CG is open, has good reviews, and is reasonably well located for our needs.

But most are probably closed. You might try the Elkhart County Fairgrounds too: Click here. They have a really great RV parking / campground. Nothing fancy, but serves well for an overnight or even a few days if your visiting the area.

I tried the web site, it's not working at the moment: 4hfair.org
