Hi All:

We have recently planned our roadtrip for the summer from Ontario down to Florida where we will be staying at one of the Disney resorts for the week. We did some research and then booked some of our sites off the cuff. I'm wondering if anyone has visited any of these campgrounds and if there is any advice, should we pick something else, etc. TIA!

Clearwater Park - Uniontown, OH
Luray KOA - Luray, VA
Virginia Beach State Park - Virginia Beach, VA
Myrtle Beach State Park - Myrtle Beach, NC
Hilton Head Harbor RV Resort - Hilton Head, SC
Fort Wilderness - Disney World, FL

We are staying at Fort Wilderness for 2 nights before we actually check into the park.

Also, we want to take a more direct route on the way back to Ontario. Any suggestions?

We've stayed at Hilton Head and Ft Wilderness and had a wonderful time both places. More to do than you can find time for.

I've camped in MBSP, and really enjoyed it, but that was 60 years ago, and I was 7. ๐Ÿ™‚ I've driven by it much more recently in my toad, and it looks just like I remembered it. Heavily wooded, so lots of shade and good sized sites. Short walk to the beach. I remember there being a large white building between us and the beach that had massive restrooms/showers for the campers. Of course, when you're 7, everything is massive. ๐Ÿ™‚
Retired and visiting as much of this beautiful country as I can.

If you have not gone yet, we just stayed at the Luray KOA two weeks ago with a TT and can give you a preview. Was well kept as all KOAs we have been are, is fine if your main criteria is to be close to any of the activities in the area. Sited in an open area that was carved out of a cornfield, although most every site did have one mature tree providing shade. Sites were of reasonable size, overall campground small, so only one building with 2 shower stalls in each of the restrooms, could be a little crowded on a busy weekend. Nothing in the campstore but a few first aid items, ice, and firewood. Avoid sites in the 145-151 range, too close to the sewer caps, when it gets warm, the smell is noticeable. In general, it was a decent, small, quiet campground with good access to the caverns, the town, the Shenandoah River, and the National Park. If you want a more active campground, Jellystone is close by, place was hopping every time we drove by. For a more wooded campground, try the Harrisonburg KOA.

You said you want to take a more direct route back to Ontario. But,I guess it depends on where you live in Ontario. If it's in the area of Kingston, from Orlando I would take I95 to I 26 to I 77 to I 81.

We've stayed at Virginia Beach State Park and liked it - a natural setting with lots of trees.

I've stayed at Hilton Head and Disney Fort Wilderness a few times and give both very high marks in every category. Have a safe trip.
