Outer Banks KOA

When you drive up to the lighthouse stop at the Orange Blossom bakery and buy some apple uglies or breakfast sandwiches!!!! Best bakery on planet earth......

We were there last year and would go back again in a heartbeat....

We stayed there last May and were very happy. It was our first long trip and we didn't know what to expect. The DW likes the KOAs because they're fairly consistent.

The wireless internet access drove us nuts. I don't know if that's important to you, but she works from the road and after 3 days was stressing out. There's a large cell tower close by and it seemed to interfere with the radios in our laptops. Access in the cafe was similarly poor, but they have wired computers there that worked fine.

I go to OBX a couple of times a season. I stay next door to the KOA at Camp Hatteras, only because we wanted to do something besides a KOA. Both are just flat spot on a sand bar.

Either one will do you. Both have easy access to the ocean over a small dune. KOA seems to be more popular with the younger crowd, But then again, everyone is getting to be the younger crowd.

Yes, you can launch your kayaks on the sound side. We love the Cape Hatteras KOA and go there often, particularly off season when it's really quiet (we're retired & our kids are grown up). Our dog loves it also - he can swim in the ocean as well as the sound. There is a little off leash enclosure on the oceanside of the camp where he can be free to play. Hope you have a wonderful time.

Thanks all, Sounds like we are ok. We do have two kids under 9 and a dog so it sounds like it will meet all the criteria for a 12 day stay. One of the things that sold us on that one was the swimming pool for the kids. Does anyone know if we can launch our kayaks on the sound side?

It will be the first time puling the camper that far (11hours) and we are planning a 2-3 day stop to tour Williamsburg on the way down to break it up.

In the same general area, some people prefer Camp Hatteras, some prefer Camp Hatteras KOA, and some prefer Ocean Waves.

We go to the KOA because their facilities are much better for dogs. In particular, they have a large field on the sound side, where the dogs can be off leash and swim in the sound.
