DH and I will be going to Pocahontas SP next week for 5 days. Have been to Richmond several times, now want to wander around Petersburg. Civil War spots a priority. Plan to visit the several parts of Petersburg Battlefield. Any other suggestions? Places to eat? Things to see? Thanks.
Two young retirees restless to GO!
Life is too short to wait too long to do all we want to do!!
Go and enjoy!!

I forgot to include something about Staunton River state park. The water pressure is very very high. Use a regulator, barely crack the faucet open, or use the tank water.

The sites at Staunton River state park were evidently laid out by an idiot back in 1960 or so. The park site map has little resemblance to actual. The problem is that the door side of your camper is likely to be 20 feet from your neighbors with the sitting area 10 feet from yours.
Camp hosts are great but overwhelmed as nobody needs to work when checks are coming from everywhere due to the current situation.
The fishing is great with the Staunton river, the Dan river, and Buggs Island lake surrounding it. 25 minutes to South Boston.
Internet is spotty at best. In 15 minutes it can go from 1X to 3G to 4G to nothing with a tower not very far away.

If you wander west from Pocohontas, check out Charlies waterfront cafe in Farmville Va, or for a college sports bar with great sandwiches Macados.
For a neat little civil war site check out Staunton view state park

The old men and boys battle. neat story.

Youve missed this months meeting but another park a couple hours west of Richmond,
Staunton river state park
is the only dark skies park in the area and holds meetups for the Chapel Hill astronomical society, with some great introductions to astronomy.
