And traffic is "bad" in Nashville. No place for a RV.
The closest is un-official dry camping at Walmart & Lowes parking lot near I40 West at exit 201. GPS N36° 07.925' W86° 54.332'. There are always a number of 18 wheelers and RV parked there.
Montgomery Bell State Park with full hookups is about 30 to 40 miles west of the Hospital.
There are also a number of COE campgrounds near Nashville. Again they are 30 - 40 miles away. - coolmom42Explorer II

This is correct. Vanderbilt is in a very congested area and no place for an RV within at least 10 miles.
Your best bet is to get a hotel room nearby (most give discounts for Vandy patients & family) but they are not cheap.
You didn't mention how old your son is---but if he is at Monroe Carrell Children's, you can get in at Ronald McDonald house, which is excellent, nearby, and runs a shuttle to the front door. You can't get in at Ronald McDonald until he is admitted and staying overnight, and it likely won't be the first night, since they do a background check which takes 24 hours. It may be possible to get this done ahead of time.
There is valet parking at both the children's hospital and the main hospital. It's very good, and FREE. The valets don't even take tips.
Ask your doctor to hook you up with someone at the hospital in patient & family support. They will have good information.
There is also a lot of information on the hospital website.
There are a few RV parks in the area near Opryland Hotel.

If you can't stay at Ronald McDonald House, don't fear the distance of the RV parks. Take a small vehicle for a toad and use the valet parking. You won't have to be coming and going at rush hour, so that will help. You can take Briley Parkway to I-40, then pick up 440, exit at the 21st Ave exit, and take that road straight in to Vandy. Map out your route ahead of time. The streets around Vandy are pretty congested, but just take your time and you will be fine. - sgip2000ExplorerThe parking is in a garage and most roads are narrow.
