RV park recommendations between Amarillo and OKC?

We're planning our first big trip (Las Vegas, NV to New York City) for next summer. I used the trip planner on the Good Sam site to lay out the route, but I would like to find somewhere to spend the night between Amarillo and OKC. Leaving Albuquerque on I-40, a 300 mile day would put me about Shamrock, TX, but I haven't seen any RV parks listed in that area. Any recommendations? Or should I just push on into OKC?
  • El Reno West KOA
Love this stop do not be fooled by the sites that you see near the office the ones behind are fabulous. Add the buffalo and the lake and it is GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • There are two nice state parks, near Hinton OK. We stayed at both in 2011. Both parks have pools and concessions. Red Rock state park in a 8 miles south of 1-40 in Hinton, it's in a valley. Very interesting history and if you like history visit the museum there in Hinton. The other is Roman Nose state park it's a ways off of 40 about 32 miles north of the Hinton exit. There is even a golf course at this park, horseback ridiing and a motel. Both are very nice. Like I said not real convenient to 1-40 but worth the drive. Red Rock is very cool and shaded. Roman Nose has a couple of fishing lakes.

  • We traveled I-40 from Kingman, AZ to Winston-Salem , NC last summer. Stayed at KOA,s everywhere but Nashville. Stayed at Two Rivers , very nice and low rate, I would stay at the KOA's again. All priced low and clean.
  • KOA Elk City, though there is some risk of discovering the Old Town Complex and National Route 66 Museum, and losing half a day visiting. Last time I went OKC to Amarillo it was a Route 66 tour and took three days :)
  • We have stayed at Double D in Texola, but I hesitate to recommend them. I called ahead in the afternoon a few years ago to see if they had space, "Sure, come on in!"; "need a credit card?"; "Nope, plenty of room"; So we skipped Amarillo, got there at 7:30 and they were full, denied that I ever called. Will not stop there again.

Heading west we try to get through OKC and stop at Rockwell RV Park on the West side.

Heading East we go on through to Oak Glen RV Park in Chandler.
