Sales Tax on an used park model in Arizona

I understand that if a park model has more than 400 sq ft (AKA Arizona room has been added) then it in personal property and not licensed as a RV. So is there sales tax on the purchase of a resale unit?

We are in Mesa, AZ and we pay country tax on our park model. It isn't licensed by DMV. There is a difference between park trailers and park model units.

  • Yes, you are correct. A new unit has sales tax on the park model itself.
  • As I understand things, a park model has to have current tags. Why not ask your question at the DMV?
  • To be clear - buy from a private individual - no sales tax!
Buy from a sales agent - sales tax!
  • Me Again, if it is a park model, wood or composition sides, no holding tanks, in other words not what is considered park trailer, that has aluminum sides, tip outs, and could have a black water holding tank, there is no state license tag, and there is no sales tax on the resale thru a private individual. Since it is not license plated thru the state, there is a county tax by the year on the unit. If you buy, make sure you get the title and make sure all taxes have been paid by former owner or owners.
  • If you by from the owner, & not a dealer, then no sales tax -- Bill Willard
