Salt Springs National Recreation Area Verizon Coverage

Hi, I am booked to go to Salt Springs Rec area by Ocala for Memorial Day weekend.

Does anyone know if Verizon wireless has good coverage in the park area?

Before you go off on using a cellphone while camping, my daughter is due to have her first child on June 2 and I want to be unable to receive her call her she goes into labor early.

I may just cancel the trip if I don't have a good answer.

Thanks,
Terry
  • Sorry guys, just returned today from Salt Springs, and our Verison Internet Hot spot was running at about 1g. We had some internet, but not enough to say you can count on it.
The place is great, but limited dommunication.

  • Rumor has it, a new tower was put on line last spring which allowed us to use our Verizon Service while there last summer. Our Jet Pack and over the air calls, iPhones, were just fine. Some friends with ATT had problems as before.
We will be there Memorial Day week also.
  • We had to drive a few miles to get a good enough signal to even make a call. Nobody wants to put in a tower near there. From the recreation.gov website: There is no cell phone coverage or internet service at Salt Springs. Such a shame because it's one of our favorite places!
  • We use Verizon and have found Salt Springs coverage to be so iffy to none, we don't go there anymore!
  • The signal seems to vary, I guess the best spot is on back road, it is a little higher. I have always been able to text easily from there.
  • Bugs, if can give me an update after your return on how good of a signal you had inside your camper that is all I should need.

    Thanks,
  • we are going there next week and I can tell you the Verizon Service is only one that works at all. You will see people all over the park trying to talk on their phones. It is iffy. We use Verizon for for internet and Majic Jack service these are 3g and very slow.. our T-mobile phones do not work. since it is at the edge of the Ocala Ntl Forest the they must have there towers directed somewhere else.
E-mail me or P.M. and we can talk>
