You probably already know but for those who don't: stay out of South Carolina and North Carolina due to record level flooding. Tune in to the Weather Channel for updates.

I saw that on the news. It just breaks my heart. I love that area. Hope it doesn't do too much damage.

Yes we have had a lot of rain since Friday night here in SC. But it seems the media as usual is trying to make it sound much worse than it generally is. I live right on Lake Marion which is currently about 4 feet low below from being full. If you look at radar that is also where the stream of moisture has been crossing SC since Friday PM. Yes there are flooded areas but they seem to be the usual low spots along the immediate coast and some sections of roads that are in low areas and frequently flood. I am 45 miles or so inland from the coast and the elevation is only 75 feet or so above sea level.I just get tired of the media and others over-hyping things!

That so called "WATER HOSE" event between the Hurricane and the NOREASTERN weather systems may be extending all the way to the Smoky Mtns around Gatlinburg... Almost all of the camp grounds in that area are along the Little River...We was tent camping at ELKMONT CAMP one weekend and the rangers just evacuated several of us campers... I was fast enough to break camp and left the area. A whole bunch of TENTS and camping items was found the next morning a couple miles downstream all piled up on sharp turn of the Little River inside the park...Hopefully after todays events we will start seeing some clearing up things along the East coastal areas here in Virginia... Myrtle Beach and North Carolina is next on the hit list now... All we are getting here is a continuous slow drizzle of rain with wind gusts in the 25-30MPH for the past several days...Be safe out thereRoy Ken

Downtown Columbia is underwater as are many outlying neighborhoods. Our 2 acre pond which was down about three feet and is only rain fed, is now back to full stage plus. Small neighborhood lake dams have been breached, some folks being rescued by boats even where there is no pond, lake, creek. Lexington SC has similar events going on. The good news I is that the drought has been broken.

Coastal areas hit hardest, and west to the center of the state, Columbia and some areas in the south eastern upstate area. We live near Greenville, 30 miles from NC mountains, 60 from Ashevillle. We had 6.5 inches this weekend, vs. Columbia at 1-2 ft! Some flash floods in the mountains, which is not uncommon. I'll be camping up that way in another week or so. Sunny today and things are drying out here...cut the grass today.

Just got an email from friends MBTP who are there for the winter. Campground is fine but downtown MB and many accesses are a mess.

Many places are flooded or are extremely wet. The best you can do is call the campground to see what conditions they have. Also check the roads to get there. Bridges are out, flooding of roads and other factors are hindering travel in some areas. Some small local dams have not held and the water has flooded local homes. It really depends on where you are as to what flooding is there. We got 'told to leave' on Ocracoke last week and visitors are still not allowed back due to flooded roads - on Ocracoke and Cedar Island and Swan Quarter. Most of that was due to high tide. We are in a waiting mode in North Carolina but hope to resume our travels soon. Check with the state DOT for road closures and the campground for flooding.

Ocena Lakes has been posting some thigns on their Facebook page. They did get some puddling in the area closer to the beach, but it was during high tide. They were having issues with sand being moved and covering up some of the drains, but they worked to clear them so the water could recede back out to the ocean. They did say the 2000 and 4000 area was good to go.
