Thinking about this state park for a few days just after Labor Day. Anyone have any experience there? fishing? hiking? kayaking? good or bad, search turned up nothing
We live in Florida. We have family very close to Table Rock. We have a 28ft travel trailer. If we brought it was wondering how this park would be. Or can you recommend anything else in the area or about an hour away in NC?
Table Rock is much nicer than Devil's Fork...unless you have a boat. Lake Jocassee is one of the prettiest sites I've ever seen, but you can't see it from most campsites.
Uma and Papa, thanks for the report. Still undecided. Got reservations at devils fork SP for part of the trip. Still debating on TR. We only 22' , 25' overall TT so not large I guess, not sure what large is. Thanks again
Got back this afternoon from our visit to Table Rock. First to the OP not sure of your RV length but according to the paper work we got from the ranger there's only 11 spots that claim it's for 40 foot campers. There were 2 Class A's in the First Loop, the second loop has a sign advising you not to go to the top if you are in a big RV. The pavement is not great, missing chunks of asphalt on the edges, they really need to do some road work. IF you do go to the park use the WEST gate entrance. The Country Store down from our site was not open the whole time we were there so make sure you get to a store BEFORE you come if you need supplies or groceries (we were told they only open for weekends now since its off season). We stayed on site #4, was fine for our 30' 5th wheel and truck. We could get WiFi from our site but not great at times, my phone was worthless till we walked to the top of the second loop then I had bars to make a call. They had not one but two Host which to us were worthless (being honest) didn't see how they were earning their spots. One was so so friendly but hardly there (car gone most of the day) and the other forget it, not friendly at all. I would go to the Country Store to get WiFi for my phone while sitting there on the outside porch bench, people coming in stopped and asked me questions where it should have been the Host job. We did do a lot of hiking, made it to the top of Table Rock Trail Wednesday, took us all day seeing we are both not spring chicks. Will tell you right off it is NOT an easy trail but the view is fantastic once you get up there. One of the easiest ways to see a similar fantastic view is jump in your car/truck and drive to Caesars Head State Park it's easier on the body. The swimming area was closed during the week but people still went to a area with a fall on the Carrick Creek Observation deck. We did see some folks out on the Pennacle Lake in canoes and pedal boats. Don't know about fishing other than what is in the paperwork given to us (you do need SC license, best to call the park) We did enjoy our visit to Table Rock since it is off season is quieter. Still have several more hiking trails that we didn't get to do, the hubby wants to go during the winter (he hopes for snow, me not so sure) The post above gave good feed back. Hope this helped.
This is our "home" park! We consider ourselves fortunate to live 15 minutes from there. When we want a quick weekend trip, we'll often use it.
The hiking is very nice! There is an easy lower loop, and a difficult climb to the top. The Kayaking / Canoeing is okay, but not a very big lake. If you make it before Labor Day, the swimming beach will still be open, and that's a nice spot on a hot day. Speaking of that, there is a beautiful, small waterfall and swimming hole just a few hundred yards in on the hiking trail.
With our trailer, we are limited to about half the sites. The other half are quite tiny. The loop road is also very curvy with many low and close tree branches. I wouldn't want to do the loop in anything larger than ours.
Bring your groceries, etc. in with you, as there really isn't an option for a half hour to 45 minutes in any direction.
Up Hwy276 into Brevard and up to the BRP and back down 215 would make a nice way to spend a day.
Have ridden thru Table Rock....kinda tight + seems to be great for popups. Heading further west on Hwy 11 is Devils Fork. It's woodsy, has a beautiful lake , lots of fishing + kayaking.
If you can make Sept 13 week work, check availability for site 39. Just had to cancel today (Fri afternoon). One of 3 prime lakefront sites.
Solitude Point, near Table Rock SP and Ceasars Head lookout. Something closer to Spartanburg is a KOA on Hwy 25 near Travelers Rest. Small and quiet. Nothing at either one of these for young family activities.
