Thanksgiving Week Long Trip Canceled

Just needing to vent...
My week-long camping trip has been placed on hold or better to say canceled.
Today marks the 6th day that I have been down.
I fell last week and broke my right femur. Just getting home and settled in. Been an experience that I would not wish on anyone.
Due to the titanium rod and screws in my leg and having to walk with a walker, which is in and of itself a J O B. climbing steps driving setting up the camper....... well you know all of this.
I have had to cancel my 16th in a row year of camping at the beach.
started camping at beach front campgrounds for TDay week 16 years ago.
the first time I won't make it.
thoughts and prayers appreciated..
thanks for allowing me to vent.

  • Concentrate on healing so you are down for a minimum of time. This is just a delay, not a cancellation. Frustrating but there will be more trips down the line.
  • Sorry to hear about having to cancel the trip. I know it's a total bummer. Hopefully the healing process will have you back on your feet and fit for camping soon. We make out plans and then life happens.
  • Weather in April will be similar to Thanksgiving in our region. Go then.
Plan for the turkey and all the fixins, you aren't missing it, your only postponing it.
  • I shattered my femur in 2000. Got the pins and rod still in my leg. That's a long recovery, if I recall it was a few months till I was walking in any kind of condition to go vacationing! And probably 6 months till I was cane free.

18 years later now, and I cannot even tell there was ever an injury there, other than the cool scar on my butt where they inserted the rod. Even completed a few running races in the years since then.

Hang in there, and stay ahead of the pain!
  • I hope you heal up fine! There has to be a lot of pain. Take the time you can't be camping and plan an after Christmas trip or early Spring trip. Start a new tradition!
  • Yikes... I can't imagine the pain from breaking a leg. Heal well.
