No, Most sites aren't really near the shop. At least not as close as it looks on the aerial view. We stayed down in the valley beside the river, (site 9) and there was actually a tree dripping rain water on our TT. But the only trees are along the river. to be honest, we talked about the lack of trees, However. With the new TT, with the slide and all. I don't really mind not having trees over me. I don't have to worry about twiggs, and leaves falling on the slide, or awning. Which may be why there aren't many trees. The grounds are perfectly mowed, and kept up. Even at Julian Price, we get out from under the trees.
You have to bring your own above ground fireplace. The sites along the river are HUGE. Our TT is 31', and of course the truck is pretty long. There was room to pull the truck to the edge of the site, and have about 20' of room between the TT, and TV. The next RV was about 30' away.
I think you would like it. All the sites are paved, and the CG is pretty flat. there is a small breakfast, and lunch grill, and also a lounge with a huge fireplace, and TV. A great place to use as a base camp, Cost 35 per.
AND, IF, you get bored. You can always walk, or drive thru the Rally Park to the dealer ship, bout 1/2 mile away. And look at the new RVs. There are hundreds of them. We rode our bikes over to see Shay's cousin, who is a Salesman there. He still talks to me, even though I didn't buy from him. BUT about a month ago. The started selling APEX TTs.
Having said all that. It may not be a place you want to go in the dead of summer. Unless like our neighbor this weekend, some (not you) may not like driving up the mountain towing, and still want a base camp to get to the BRP, Black Mountain, Linville Caverns, Spruce Pine. Little Switzerland and Linville. It is a very nice campground.
