Trip Report (video) - Cascade Lake, NC

As with everyone, it was a rough winter to wait out. We had one winter trip and a spring shakedown trip a few weeks ago, but last weekend was our first "real" trip of the year.

I have posted a few trip reports in the past with some photos, but thought I would give a link on this one to a video that I put together. It's a little long, but if some of you are still buried in snow, it might be worth watching and scratch the itch.

The video is a bit on the personal side, but I figured I'd share anyway.

Not much else to say, it speaks for itself. This is a campsite that we've been on twice now and it is definitely on our must do list every year (several times).

Enjoy! (will not work on mobile devices)

Cascade Lake Spring Break 2014
  • Was hoping to see it but can't watch it on my ipad. Says something about the format.... :(
  • What happened is that the music I used threw up a red flag on licensing for youtube. It will only work on a computer unless I check off a box saying I own the rights to the music. Which I don't.

Some say to check the box anyway, but it's not worth it.
  • Looked great. Dogs don't get enough credit. Where did you learn to edit? Thinking about getting a "go pro" and making some myself. Any hints?
  • I used Windows Movie Maker (free). Self taught by watching tutorials on youtube. The editing was a lot of fun, it was the software and hardware issues that got frustrating. This video came from 32gb of raw footage, and my computer hated it. I had the editing done in about 4-5 hours. Publishing it to a movie took another 4 days. It didn't work until I broke it into 10 minute segments and on my third computer. By the time I got it done, some of the careful polishing from the first edit had been lost, and I was too worn to go to that level again.

The video was shot with a Sony Action Cam. It seemed a little more of a value than GoPro to me. From this YouTube link, you really can't tell how sweet the 1080p original looks on our TV. It is just as clean and crisp as bluray. We're very pleased.
  • If that was this past Easter weekend, your weather was much better than my miserable beach trip.
  • It was Easter weekend. Hit or miss in the south. We really did have it perfect. In early morning and night, needed to sit by the fire, and wearing shorts mid day!
