Valley of Fire, NV

Rocmoc, your suggestion won the lottery. We used those coordinates to explore using Google Earth, and were able to drive right to that canyon. It was absolutely gorgeous! It is obvious from the rock formations that this area is an extension of the geology in the Valley of Fire park. So the experience is similar to what dispersed camping in the VoF would be like.


The area is a popular ATV area called Logandale Trails, so you cannot expect solitude, and on a holiday weekend it was very busy. But most of the crowd were day riders and it was quiet in the mornings and at night. Most of the riders didn't get started until midday.

Sorry I'm late on the previous question, but our big Labrador was off leash the entire time at camp. There are plenty of places where you can pull your trailer away from the road a comfortable distance.

We had a great time. Highly recommended!

Happy I could help, we sure enjoyed when we were there. In early May, our group was nearly the only ones there the entire week.

Valley of Fire Album

Might be going camping at Valley of Fire or surrounding areas for the Thanksgiving weekend. We have one dog (black lab mix). Are there any good areas set back a ways, where she does not have to be leashed all the time? We got 2 kids (8 year old twins) and a small travel trailer.

We always stay at the BLM area just outside the town of Overton, free and lots of area to stay. Its just about 3 miles from town and on top of the bluff, its also about 3 miles from the entrance to the park ....

We just finished visiting VAlley of Fire State Park...great park.

We chose to boondock. By the way the drive from Henderson up around Lake Mead and entering Valley of Fire from the east is worth it!
We boondocked at Stewarts point. There is a toilet there. It is free; gotta love free.

Spent a long day seeing/walking everything in VAlley of fire SP and then kept our fingers crossed (and used Ipad ith Allstays ap) hoping to find a spot to overnight on the west side of VOF SP on BLM lands.
We did. The road curves to the north a few miles east of route 15 and there is a spot there just off the road to overnight. There is also an overnight spot on another dirt road east of this but there was already a fifth wheel in it. It was almost dark.

The colors of the rock in this park are AWESOME better than Artist's drive in Death Valley.

The back loop road is good and private sites and you can tuck back in the rocks at some.Just don't do that if the winds a blow'in unless you like red dust thru out your rig. Don't ask how I know.
