I have reservations for Sept 15 - 24 in Yellowstone at Fishing Bridge and Madison campgrounds. Does anyone have any personal experience with the weather at that time of the year in these locations. The cool temperatures are not a big concern, but I don't want to see any snow.I know at this time, the tourists will be gone and the wildlife active, so looking forward to a great trip.Also, headed to Gros Ventre in the Grand Tetons after I leave Yellowstone, so any suggested routes would be appreciated as would any comments on my schedule.

Could be warm, with a chance of snow. Temperatures will vary from freezing to the mid 70s.Good time to go. Elk should be passing through Madison campground bugling all the way in the evenings. Bears could be passing through Fishing Bridge.Trees will be changing.

If you don't want to see snow, don't go to Yellowstone. I have seen it snow every month of the year there, honestly. It's higher and further north then you are used to.But late Sept, odds are it might snow, but the snow will be melted off the roads by noonish, If it's an unseasonable storm the Park Service will actually plow the roads.Personally I prefer the early spring, as the game is largely still down in the valleys. But Sept is a good time, being the Fall some of the big-game will be more aggressive then earlier so make certain you give them space.

These animals can be very dangerous. One or two people a year are killed because they think these animals are tame. JMHO.

We were at YNP a couple of years ago from 16 to 23 Sep - the weather was fantastic! We even managed not to get snowed upon. Overnight lows were in the 20's, but it warmed very nicely into the 60's with bright blue skies every day.Here's our report and pix on our visit.Have a great trip!Ted H.

2009 closed Fishing bridge Sept 30 , Moved over to Madison..Great time. Temps okay...Wildlife abundant....

Read in the news that it snowed the next week.

We go the third week of Sept almost every year. Usually the weather is great- 30s at night and 60 or 70 during the day. But things can change drastically so be prepared for worse weather. Have appropriate clothing and have your propane tanks full. Stay informed about the local weather and pay attention to what you see developing. We have definitely seen snow that time of year.

Here's the averages by month for the last 107 years. Based on the data during those months, I'd take shorts and a parka. :)

We've been there a few times mid-late September with no snow. However, you just can't rely on it. If it does, it probably won't last until noon or so as the daytime temps are still pleasant. It will be cold at night so bring extra blankets, coat, gloves and hat. :) It's a wonderful time to be there. Have fun!

We spent ten days in YNP in mid-October a few years ago -- no snow, but quite chilly -- so cool that a lot of steam was coming from Mammoth Hot Springs:

I would not hesitate to go -- no bugs, fewer crowds, fall colors. Just keep an eye on the weather.

We were there in September two years ago, and the weather was fantastic. Cold enough at night in Fishing Bridge that we had to unhook the water supply, but warmed up to shirt sleeve weather during the day. Chances are you'll be fine. Have fun!

You can go to weather.com and get average daily highs and lows for the time during which you plan to visit. Have a great trip.
