Western CT

Heading south to DC and wanted to overnight in the far west Connecticut area, I'm not finding any place. I can try to make it a bit further west but options after going into NY state seem even more limited. Newburgh requires 2 nights. Any one have a good spot?
  • Coming from Southen NH. Have decided to make the first day drive heavy and will be stopping in PA. All of the examples, and thanks for sharing, are what I was defining as Western CT- i.e. West of Hartford.

Pickings are pretty thin in this part of the world...Ct is small state so western - central not much difference........Have Bear Creek..less that hour from NY state line....off 84..got Branch Brook maybe 15 minutes up rt 8 from 84.....and then in NY got Newburgh KOA...up rt 100 from 84 maybe 20 miles as a guess
and next shot is Tri-State at exit 53 of 84 in pa...at NY state line...Chuck
  • What do you consider western CT? What route are you driving?
  • I'm writing these down. Finding good overnights in that general area above NY City on 84 has been a challenge.
  • North of Waterbury - just off CT-8 - in Thomaston is Branch Brook CG. The CG is actually located on US-6. About 8-9 miles from I-84 up to Thomaston.

We stayed there for two months last year while our volunteer spot with the COE was not ready. Nice folks, and they do have some overnight spots.
  • I had a similar issue and gave up and stayed here

    Sylvan Lake

Exit 15 in NY off I-84. Not far from the CT/NY border.

Note: Don't take the Taconic State Parkway. Campers not allowed.
