- Retired_andLoveExplorerWe thought we would try Rudy's in McAllen tonight. What a waste of $30. The smoked baby back ribs had no smoke flavor. Tender but tasted like boar meat. The wife's brisket had plenty of smoke flavor but very dry. Their sissy sauce was to spicy for the wife but I managed to eat some. Brought remainder of ribs home so we could try to salvage them by using a good sauce on them. The food was actually worse than Texas Pride in San Antonio. Up till now that was the worst BBQ that I had ever tasted.

There is a large German hotel/restaurant on the western edge of town where 290 and 87 split. You can't miss it. I don't know how good it is. We stayed at the hotel but ate elsewhere that day. I can say we were not impressed with the hotel and would not return.
Heard that Fredricksberg has great German cuisine. Anyone have any suggestions for this area? Which restaurant has great German cuisine at reasonable prices? - skeetshooterExplorerIf you get to Fredricksberg drive about 30 miles north to Llano and try Coopers BBQ. It's a unique experience.
