I think you are correct. Most Californians think in terms of the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco as "west", everything else is "east". Two weeks is not going to give the OP much time to let the vast west soak in and experience it. A couple days in the giant Redwoods and a few along the Pacific Coast Highway, perhaps the most scenic single road in America, and the travel time from the OP's home and back and two weeks are consumed.
We really wish we could make it all the way to the WEST. Would enjoy seeing the redwoods. Trying not to make it any more rushed than it already will be. Will just have to stick to the MIDWESt
