Where to go in October?

In October, I usually head for Assateague Island (Ocean City) or Shenandoah National Park. The beach is deserted in October. In Shenandoah, the leaves are changing and it is spectacular. There are a couple of lodges but they may already be booked up. October is also a great time to visit DC or Williamsburg, VA (Octoberfest at Busch Gardens). It really depends on what you might be looking for - mountain hikes, beach walks, biggish city, or history. All the above places are perfect in October as the crowds are gone, the scenery is great with the leaves changing and the weather is beautiful. Best of luck and enjoy your trip!

Ocean City starts closing up shop after Sunfest weekend in September, but I like it because its way less crowded. Heck, I go in February. Waaaay less crowded then LOL.

I don't know what you consider "tourist attractions", but unless you like amusement park rides, mini golf, and go-carts, M.B. probably your better bet. O.C is more about the beach and the board walk. and the restaurants and nightclubs.

Take a look at making reservations at Cherry Hill just outside DC - October might be the best time to visit the area, not sure I know of anywhere that has so much that a young person would enjoy discovering. Museums and monuments like nowhere on earth.

If you need something not in a big City look at Williamsburg, Va -- Bush Gardens is as much entertainment as anywhere and if I recall is still wide open then on the other days you could explore the area.

Last and certainly not least NYC -- if you are RV-less this is a great time to explore and discover a Man-Made National Park -- we have walked for days and just never stopped staring at all the sights almost as unique as Yellowstone.

Haven't been to Shenandoah in years-checked the lodges about a month ago and they were all pretty well booked. Problem is other than Ocean City and NYC (no real interest) we've been to all the places listed in recent years. May be interesting to hit them in the fall, though. Thanks-this is giving me ideas to at least work with.

Well, my family and I will be in Salem, Mass checking out the witches....

October is one of the best times to be in Myrtle Beach. The ocean is still warm, the restaurants and attractions are open and the kids are all in school; it's not overly crowded.

We'll be at Myrtle Beach Travel Park in October & November. :C

You might try Shenandoah State Park. It's just south of Front Royal near the Northern NP entrance and not far from Luray. They have cabins one can rent and the park is right on the river with a quite a few decent hiking trails.

Sorry. I wasn't paying attention to the date. My mind was leaning towards spring break. :)

If you are looking to go out on the beach for any warmth, then I would consider further south. Even further than myrtle beach. Lol.

Busskipper, we've stayed at Cherry Hill for overnights on our way down south. It's a great campground that we've wanted to spend time at. Will have to check to see if they have rental units.

Would love to be able to drive to Florida, but it takes too long from here. Thanks to everyone-you've given me good places to start.
