Which campground near Pigeon Forge.....

We generally stay at Pine Mountain RV Resort while in Pigeon Forge but it seems all river sites are booked for our time frame in December so we are looking at other options.

I have seen really good reviews on these two parks...Two Rivers Landing RV Resort and River Plantation RV Resort.

Camping in a travel trailer with our 2 adult kids (19/23) so not needing a lot of kids activites. We generally go into Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg for activities.

Looking for opinions on these two.

Two Jayhawks....

We really went back and forth but we finally decided on River Plantation, a back in river site. We liked the look of Two Rivers but we have a travel trailer thus we would not be able to have river front, only the river view across the street. We like being backed up to the river.

Looking forward to trying out a new park this December.

Oh you'll love it. We were in a back in river site also when we were there and had lots of green space behind the site.

We have stayed at both River Plantation as well as Two Rivers. Both are excellent but Two Rivers is a cut above. The pull in sites looking over the river are wonderful. We sat out every evening and saw eagles quite regularly.

Just to update you on the weather forecast for the Upper East TN area, which includes the Gatlinburg/PF area: According to our local station, it's according to where Hurricane Irma comes in, but we could see a lot of rain from her next Monday and Tuesday, plus some windy conditions. With just 2-4" in a day or two is nominal for a hurricane, it can cause some flash flooding in this mountainous area. Just keep an eye out on the weather.

Just to update further - this afternoon, Thursday, the weather is pretty much set on the fact that the remains or Hurricane Irma will head straight up from the GA, SC coastal area to the Upper East Tn/SW Virginia, Western NC area. That's right where you are planning to go. They said to expect 1-4 inches or rain, but wind gusting into the 60mph range. Not really good camping weather, but better than HURRICANE weather.

I stopped staying at River Plantation a few years ago. I don't care for the lay out of the park but in my opinion they should not charge so much for river front as there is no real access to it other than a coupe of Premium sites. Traffic going into PF is a whole other nightmare.

Ken56....Pine Mountain has a few left in our time frame but they do not back up to the creek. Those are the nicest in my opinion. Someone from our church always stay at River Plantation and I found Two Rivers by doing a search through Good Sam. My only concern is it is farther up the road and only Class A's get the river frontage all others get river view. But it is not that big of a park. And for our time frame it is $310.00 less than River Plantation but RP is one of the river sites. So just going back and forth, do we just go to Pine Mountain on a site we know we are not found of or do we go to Two Rivers and get a river view or pay the additional monies for a river site at River Plantation. Or look at a another campground all together. Decisions.... Decisions

Fair enough. I live in the area so I do have first hand knowledge and have been in most of these campgrounds if for only driving in and looking at them. I use the RVPARKY app to look for parks when we travel. The Good Sam travel planner is good too IMO. The time frame you want I would say to secure a reservation where you can find one.

We have stayed at a few others over the years and I have been looking here as well as some other forums. Also friends that have camped before in PF are giving advice.

We,too, like Pine Mtn; like the size of the sites (for a tourist area), how you are close to everything, but not RIGHT ON the parkway. We have stayed at River Plantation, but we were not impressed. It is in Sevierville and getting into PF from there is sometimes just a pain in the rear - traffic can be HORRIBLE.

If we were coming and could not get into Pine Mtn, we would probably try Bear Cove, just beside Dollywood; Twin Creek in Gatlinburg or if we were wanting really quiet, we would do Smoky Bear out in Cosby.

River Plantation is the closest of the 2 to PF. River plantation gets good reviews though I have never driven through it to know first hand. 2 rivers is further north, maybe 2-3 miles south of the exit on I-40. Nice enough and it backs up to the French Broad River, road noise is minimal.

Check out Cosby area out rt.321 east of G'burg. Lots of campgrounds there and they are nice but may be a 20-30 minute drive outside of town. Worth the drive for the peace and quite. What are you using to find parks if I may ask?
