I also discourage the main road bike ride onto the island with kids. I do it often, but not even with my 14 year old son. Plenty of free parking if you get about 3 or 4 blocks off the beach. Particularly in Wildwood Crest. Beautiful concrete bike path running north south along the beach for about a mile south of the boardwalk, which then ramps up onto the boardwalk. Biking on boardwalk allowed until either 11 am or noon I forget which. I highly recommend you get up there early before the crowds. Most of the pizzarias on the boardwalk offer a breakfast special you can eat on the stools overlooking the beach. Yoga at surise on the beach. I'll post a few pictures here. Feel free to PM for detailed info on the area. We are down there at least 4 times per year for the last 20 years!

That's a bummer, thanks for the feedback. I guess we will just have to plan on parking at the beach and throwing the bikes in the bed of the truck. Either way, looking forward to it... hoping for some decent pizza =)!

Are any campgrounds close enough to the beach to bike to them? We have 2 toddlers in a bike trailer, so I'd prefer to avoid major roadways. We are thinking of hitting the old Jersey Shore this fall to see what its all about.

There are plenty of campgrounds along Route 9 that I wouldn't worry about riding to the beach on my bike ALONE. No chance I would take 2 toddlers in a bike trailer. I would be worried about taking our 13 year old son down the causeways.

In Southern NJ, the only beach town with a campground is Strathmere. I'm pretty sure that is a seasonal only campsite, I don't believe they offer short term camping. It is however, just across the street from the ocean, so no need for a bike.

I wouldn't recommend riding bikes with 2 toddlers out to the beach. Wildwood is a couple miles of highway across the marsh to get to the beach on the barrier island. Even going to Cape May from the campgrounds, it's a long ride to a bicycle, with narrow roads and lots of traffic.

Big Timber Lake is nice. This year we are going to Beachcomber, which is 4 miles from Wildwood.

We are at Beachcomber now. Yes, the roads and some spots are somewhat tight, but we have a 31' class c with a toad and we got in no trouble. Sites in the back section are absolutely huge. And this place is awesome. Super clean and friendly. Beach/playground area is great. Their website doesn't do it justice. And only minutes from Cape May, Wildwood, and Sunset Beach.

x2 for the Seashore Campground. Lots of amenities, clean, lake and pool swimming, and friendly staff. Highly recommend it! The link is here

If I was you, and since you live only 90 minutes from Wildwood, I would make a day trip and go check out the campgrounds in the area. Most of the campgrounds are on the same road.
Take the day, go to the beach, visit the campgrounds, have lunch in Cape May, and go back home.......Great Day !! ๐Ÿ™‚

We have stayed at Big Timberlake on many occasions, it is nice, was looking for something a little closer to Wildwood, less driving for the race.
