Wintering + boondocking in Florida?

Is anyone wintering/boondocking in Florida? It looks like there's some national forest around as well as Water Management land that may offer boondocking.

Where have you gone? What have you gone in?
  • Yes there is some boondocking, State and National forest parks both have it. Don't count on finding it near a beach. The State Forests are probably mainly unknown.

Strange place to find an article, heh. These aren't even well known in the state.
  • Yeah, I’m totally OK with not being near the beach. Just looking to be in Florida and away from some of the hustle/bustle of winter in Florida. Plus I want to try out my new found boondocking abilities!
  • I see campgrounds, like Juniper Springs in the forests and dispersed tent camping but no mention of dispersed RV camping. Might be worth a few phone calls. Usually the forest road use maps have the dispersed site marks, nothing on the ones I looked at in FL.

Many of the Wildlife Management areas have camping areas...no facilities. After the first couple weeks of hunting season you will have it by yourself during the week.
  • I am seeing a lot of campsites for like tents and stuff. There are a handful of equestrian spots and they say "also for non-equestrian use" that tells me they'd by OK for my big rig setup (42' fifth wheel/crew cab/long bed/dually).

I'm OK without facilities. I can bring fresh water in and waste water out.
