Wintering in the Donna Texas Area

We are considering spending some time this winter in south Texas. We have heard that Donna Texas is nice. Can anyone give me advice on this area? What area is good? Weather in Feb/March and names of good RV campgrounds?

Good choice, Donna is centrally located in the Rio Grande Valley, but don't lock yourself into just Donna. There are nearly 500 parks in the Valley ranging from under $200. a month to about $800. a month. They have a wide range of facilities and activities. Some are very nice & some nasty and some poor sites in the nice parks & some really nice sites in some of the cheaper parks. Most parks will have vacancies all Winter, at least they have the past several Winters. So find a spot for a week or so & visit many parks until you find what you like at a price that is fair to you. Don't be shy about asking for discounts for 1st timers, depending on the month and length of stay many parks will offer a deal. Be aware that many parks are located on either expressway 83 or business 83 and can have a lot of traffic noise. Even these parks may have quiet sites depending on the location of the site within the park. Also if you can get a site where your patio faces north your rig will block the prevailing wind from the gulf and provide afternoon shade. Have a look at Snow to Sun in Weslaco right next door to Donna. They have some good first timer rates and an active schedule.
We have not been there for a few winters now, but we enjoyed the winters we were there - also easy access to go to Progreso Mex.

Some close friends of ours spent 3 months in Donna this year. They stayed at Victoria Palms Resort, the resort itself was beautiful with really nice facilities. There were many Canadians at the resort and they only wanted to associate with other Canadians. Not making any judgments, just relating their experience.

We have wintered in the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) for four winters and plan to be down there for many more. Last year was a cool winter, much cooler than normal in Feb/March. Highs in the upper 50's with cold winds, lows at night in the mid to lower 40's were common place. In a normal winter residents tend to wear shorts and T-shirts every day with highs in the 80's.
Golf and Swimming every day we want.

There are as many as 500 RV/Mobile Home parks in the RGV. Donna is pretty centrally located in the valley.

One of the best parks in the RGV is Llano Grande (pronounced yanno grande') You should visit their new WEB site. link to Llano Web Site They now post an event calendar on line. You can look at Feb or March 2014 Calendars to get a sense of what they offer. Book early, as FEB/March the park is usually full (1,200 sites).
