07 4 winds Majestic 23b Converter upgrade PICS

Hi all,

I'm my mother's RV minion... lol! I maintain her rig, and keep it in working order. She fried an AGM battery recently. I busted out the multimeter and figured out the converter went bad. I called Randy the GURU at BEST CONVERTER.

I opted to replace the factory Parralax 7345 (45AMP) guts with a Progressive Dynamics 4655 retrofit kit. (55AMP)

Kit had great instructions... Im not such a 12V noob now, so it was relatively painless.

here are the install pics:

Old unit

Old DC distribution board:

New Distribution Panel w/ BO fuse light:

New Converter Core: PD 4655

12V power in from new GRP 27 Battery:

The 4655 sell on Amazon for $217, and the 9260 for $170. 55vs60 amp and of course one is a board upgrade vs stand alone. Why the difference in price, and why not upgrade the 7155 with the stand alone unit?

Not taking anything away from this OP just asking a question, the OP upgrade looks good and was neatly done from the pix.

I thought of just bypassing, but seeing that mom will be mobile and i won't be with her. I didn't want some strange repair needed, and some random repair dude to walk into a custom install job.

I am thinking I am also gonna mount two grp 27's on the chassis with the forklift hidden power jobber. move the batteries aft, near the converter... this rig will also double as her bug out bus... lol. I just had the hitch reinforced so she can toad her ford c-max too
  • I did my conversion as detailed in the link I posted. I have never heard the fan run and I am not aware of any overheating, but I must admit that I haven't specifically looked for overheating.

The 9260 has been around for a long time and maybe that is part of the reason for the cost differential???
  • Hi tenbear

Thanks for the advise and the link, great work and documentation.

My plan was to remove the 7155 box and mount the 9260 on the floor just under where the old conv is now. My entire installation is under the bed. So the old conv is almost on the floor right now. PD responded back with a reply to the same question posted here not to install the 9260 inside the 7155 case without adding fans and that on the floor would be fine. I might cut out the solid part of the chassis cover on the bottom and install an added fan as my inverter is also installed under the bed. Adding some air flow won't hurt.

So I guess the bigger answer to my question is the up charge is for the convenience. I'd rather have the extra 5 amps and do it my way! Also I guess you get a new DC fuse board with the 4655, that does not come with a 9260. Mine already has a board with LEDs on the fuses. Not sure what else the new board would provide, but not at and extra $50.

I replaced my Magnetek with the PD9260. The 4655 is a plug and play replacement. The 9260 requires considerably more work.

Here is a link to the replacement directions.

  • Ya, I'm trying to get her squared away... All she'll have to do it hope in and go. I've got a few solar panels on order as well.
  • Looks good! You and your mother will be happy with the new converter. The battery will charge much faster and should use less water.
