5th Wheel Remodel

Hello,

We are planning to remodel our Jayco 5th wheel, a 2003 305 BH, replacing the carpet with vinyl planks, and painting the walls and cabinets. We removed the carpet in the main living area, lifted up the edge of the carpet in the slide-out, and noticed a long white plastic strip that runs the length of the slide-out. Does anyone know what purpose this strip serves?

When the slide-out is out, the edge rests just slightly below this plastic strip. We're thinking about removing the carpet in the slide-out as well, but if we do, the strip will be in the way of installing the vinyl planks all the way. If it truly serves a purpose, then we'll leave the slide-out carpet intact since the flap of it covers the strip when the slide-out is extended. If there's no real purpose, then we may remove it.

Any input is appreciated..tks.
  • The bottom of the slide glides against that strip.

Mine cracked (probably from stepping on slide floor when partially extended)
I elected to install rollers. They work a lot better to keep the underside of the slide room from wearing on the carpet.

  • Sounds like UHDM "Ultra High Density Material"

Super hard super slick, used for edge guys, and wear spots , rollers , sliding blocks, etc... Where two surfaces meet and you want to prevent wear

I suggest you leave it in place
  • Very likely your describing the slide room wear strip. The room rides up and over the strip to help prevent dragging on the flooring.
