Adding cable TV hookup to older class A

Hello all,

if this subject is already on the forums, I missed it;point me in the right direction.

I have a 1989 mallard sprinter class a and would like to add cable tv capability to it. I have 2 tv's in the mh, with a rooftop analog antenae hooked to them that works ok at best.

Can I install a RG-6 receptacle on the outside of the rv and run coax to the tv's? Maybe a 2 coax connector for each tv, so I can switch from the rooftop antenae to campground cable tv?

I'd appreciate any thoughts on this

  • If your antenna system is a typical Winegard, then you may be in good shape. Remove the antenna output/booster/splitter switch and see if there is a connection already there for cable input. If so, then if you attach your cable feed to it, leaving the booster off, you should get cable to whatever TV's are fed from the antenna.

You next problem is to get the cable to the booster/splitter. The PO of my unit did add a coax connection (actually for sat) by drilling/cutting through the external wall just behind a couch and installed the proper box. He then fed the cable from the backside of the box up to the cabinet that had the connections.
  • That will definately help, but I'll still need to install a receptacle on the outside of the mh.

I'll try to find the schematic

    Thanks Bumpy
  • somebody has previously posted a schematic to put a jumper around the signal booster so that you can use the standard input for cable.

  • My friend installed a through the wall connector near the tv. When not in use it has a plastic cap to keep dirt out. Works well for him with cable or the tailgater. Only cost a couple bucks and was an easy install. You may need to install a cable modem inside as many parks are going digital cable.
