Interior cosmetic upgrades

Just got a Thor Four Winds 22E and looking to reupholster the cushions and possibly the valences as well! Has anyone tried doing this before?

Also, would it be possible to wallpaper the area by the bed?
  • You would just need to use vinyl on vinyl adhesive like you would for a border going over vinyl paper.
  • Seems like there is already some kind of wallpaper covering on there. Would it be a bad idea to put additional wall covering over it?

Mold was on exterior walls of commercial buildings. In a mid to southern US climate it was a problem as "vinyl" acts like vapor barrier on inside of wall. Vinyl wall paper would come loose, and saw black mold on mostly back side. No problem on interior walls.
Thanks for posting again and defining the location.

I don't think a typical RV is going to have a mold issue with vinyl wall coverings as quite a few of them come with these coverings and those owners would be posting about their mold issues, if prevalent.

  • We did all above. I'd use a primer on the wall before putting the wallpaper on. However, with newer products nowadays I don't know if it's needed. I did ours about 40 yrs ago and didn't prime........it all came down...LOL LOL. Primed, put it up again and it stayed.

Valances...I took them off and put up regular curtains. :) :) Opens up the windows a LOT.

I would caution on putting "wall paper" on an exterior wall. Worked as an Architect for over 40 years and we found out that if you put "Vinyl Wall Paper" on and exterior wall, it acts like a "vapor barrier" and will cause mold problems on wall at back side of paper.
Is that mold experience only with RV's?
FWIW, as a contractor with fourty years of experience, I've hardly ever encountered a mold problem on covered wall surfaces, either exterior or partition walls. Any mold problems on habitable space walls or other surfaces has been generated by a very high humidity level. Causes of that high level are not from typical living behavior.

  • all of what you are asking can and is done on many RVs....just find what you want and do it.

Reupholster, easily done, been there done that twice. Wallpaper, I would assume a good vinyl with vinyl adhesive would work but I have never tried it.
