For that much money I'd buy a 10 cu.ft 12V compressor fridge. I've had my GE 9.8 cu.ft 12V compressor fridge for 3 season and it's been flawless. It's a little power hungry but I have solar and a gen when needed so it works out fine.
The added room going form 8 cu.ft to 10 cu.ft is well worth the swap out. All 12V 10 cu.ft fridges are pretty much plug n play.
Not sure where you got $500 for shipping, it was $95, I also got a $150 discount as my four year old adsorption unit failed.
We shall soon see how well it works.
