The OP isn't talking about tinning all the exposed copper, just the ends, which is what I've always done to prevent individual strands from separating from the bunch.
That's what I am talking about- not a good idea. I tin low voltage/low current leads, but not power.
FWIW, I really like the Progressive Indutries replacements- this one on Amazon is miss labeled,but that's the one
