replace kitchen sink?

Just wondering if anyone has replaced their stock plastic rv sink with a nice stainless Steel one? What issues did you run into etc....

Thanks!
  • They make a stainless steel sink for RV's, I replaced one in my park model trailer, which uses an RV sink. Lowes stocks them, at least the one in Sebring Florida did. I checked at Home Depot and the clerk told me they couldn't even order them. Be sure to measure the opening. The problem is that RV's (and park model trailers) don't have full depth counters, as is standard in houses. There may be exceptions.
  • Just removed the original double-bowl cream-enamel RV sink from the father-in-law's travel trailer and replaced it with a monster single-bowl stainless residential sink bought off the shelf in a big-box.

The new sink required a minor mod to the counter-top cutout but the main point is that the RV sink had a wide radius between sides and bottom and the bottom is sloped significantly down to the drain basket, something like a squashed-down funnel, all of which helps draining the sink when less than perfectly level. The residential replacement has a smaller radius between sides and bottom and the slope down to the drain-basket is flatter.

All this means the sink-bowl itself is larger, which might be good, but it must be fairly level to drain completely, which might be an issue. (This trailer is used as a winter home and is parked for months at a time and well leveled so no big deal.)
  • OH by the way you need to pull up the current sink and then measure the size of the cutout. You can't do it by measuring the top of the sink. Maybe you could do it from underneath the sink but there isn't much room under there usually.
  • I put a SS sink in my coach but I already had an oversized sink to start. As mentioned above, there are many options (actually few SS options) so do some online research and check "cut-out" sizes compared to what you have now and any additional spare space you might have.
  • There is a difference in sink sizes between residencial and RVs. DW was unhappy with our RV sink white fiberglass and wanted a granite composit like she had in the S&B's. I was able to replace with what she desired because our countertop was oversized allowing installation though plumbing needed to be changed, old sink ws 7 in depth new was 9 in depth needed remodeling as sink was in slide and would not drain without replumbing.

Sorry didn't really answer the OP question completly just google RV kitchen sinks there are several suppliers of RV sinks, Stainless and fiberglass. Measure your sink, they are probally 17X32 should be a drop in if you stay with the same size.
  • The only problem would be finding a SS sink that fits the countertop cutout that the old sink uses. Other than that a sink is a sink, they are standardized. You could use a sink that uses a larger cutout if you have the skills and tools to enlarge the hole. If you want to replace the countertop you can get a custom fabricated one, check your big box hardware store.
