Slideout is ruining linoleum

When the fifth wheel was new they installed a strip of plastic along the bottom of the slide, on each side, to keep the wood from dragging and splintering when the slide moves in and out. But when they re-installed the piece of metal trim that goes along the edge it now sticks down by the thickness of the plastic. That metal trim is what digs into the linoleum when the slide tips as it nears the end of the inward cycle. So I am taking the metal trim off to make an adjustment in it. I will look at it and see what needs to be done to it.
  • I am finding it easier to fix things as the fifth wheel gets older because I no longer worry about messing something up. I am getting things fixed so much faster and easier now that I have the attitude that what ever I do can only help it.
That and I don't have to worry about getting it fixed before our next trip because we seldom use it now.
  • Thanks Scott! I have already tried making adjustments to the slide and It might have helped a little. I found out what was wrong when I removed the piece of drip edge trim and when I started screwing it on again I noticed that it had been installed at a downward angle towards the inside. So that the inside end was lower than the bottom of the slide. So I drilled three new screw holes towards the inside end of the trim and raised it up and screwed it back on and it is okay now.
  • Rack and pinion slide system? You can adjust the angle of the slide as it comes in. You need to lower the outside edge a bit to lower the inside edge while it's being retracted. There will be a vertical bolt at each end of the slide out.that adjust height. Make minor adjustments and recheck operation.
