Solar step lights

While in a local discount store I found a couple of Solar Deck Post lights on sale for 7.99 each. I had seen a Pinterest post where a user mounted these to their trailer for outside lighting.

Our rear door blocks the porch light from the steps and some nights stepping out of the trailer can be by "feel" only. I thought I'd give these a try. They have a very soft glow at dark, but when movement is detected they get 5 times brighter. They return to lowlight after 3 minuites.

Each one has it's own on/off switch.
  • You can see in the last picture posted there is an overhead light shining on the trailer. That is our bucket light. We don't leave it on all night so these little step lights really help for the late night/"very" early morning walks. We seldom use the front bedroom door, it's more of an emergency exit, but still the light may be a lifesaver.

    Interesting concept.
Do you have a brand name or part number?
The amber "porch" light on my fifth leaves a lot to be desired for illumination of the steps.

You know that if you change that amber light to a clear light bulb
and/or change the amber lens cover to a clear lens cover it makes a BIG difference?

They sell replacement clear porch light lens at every RV and trailer stores.
  • I have tried numerous solar lights for the steps. It seems none of them charge up well if they are in the shade during the day. I gave up and went to motion detector LED lights. The batteries last for weeks and the lights always works. Thanks for posting an alternative but I think I will stick with the battery models.
  • Found one of these in our local Dollar General and temporarily "hung" it on the door side slide cable. What a difference! Did not tell my DW about it and she opened the door to let the dog out for her nightly business and wondered where all the light was from.

Don't think I'll install permanently just yet.
  • Yup! Stores have a ton of these real functioning solar motion lights now.

Just take a walk down the lighting isle at Home Depot/Lowes, it will blow your mind all the options we have now. :B
  • The brand name is "ever brite" from Dollar General. Walgreen's had a similar light in their "As seen on TV" section.
