The Doulton Under Sink Filter

On our first outing with the new sink, faucet and Doulton Under Sink Filtration System we found the water very tasty out of the Under Sink Filter. I have to say it comes at a pretty slow rate though. I would say 16 ounces takes a good 10 seconds. Which is really no big deal as we are on vacation anyway right? The upstream filter element I put in is a Scale remover and is pretty hefty. The downstream element is a ceramic/carbon for additional filtration and taste. This could be the reason it's kind of pokey. I ordered a 5 micron "gravel strainer" to replace the hefty scale filter upstream and see if that helps flow with out compromising the taste of the water. We are taking a little ride up the coast in a week and I will see what the new filter does to the flow.
  • Which Doulton filter is it? If it is this one (as in photo), it has a flow rate of 1/2 GPM per Doulton's specs, which equates to about 16 sec. for 16 ounces. So there is nothing wrong with the filter or installation. 1/2 gpm is kinda slow but not all that bad for drinking water only. The only way to get faster water would be to change to a large filter. Douton makes excellent filters but it's a good idea to check specs beforehand. The flow rate will also depend on the setting of your regulator. I have our Watts set at 65 psi.

I installed a Doulton ceramic filter in a 10" whole house housing. Have 3 10" whole house filters under our kitchen sink - 5 micron sediment, 1 micron Doulton and a 0.2 micron "ultrafiltration" UF filter. Flow after the Doulton filter is good. The UF filter supplies an RO type faucet for drinking water only and it is slow but better than 1/2 gpm.

Hmmmm "very tasty" to me means something is in the water that shouldn't be there.:S Purfied water should have "NO TASTE":h\

OK..........by tasty, I mean it's not foul tasting. Certainly nothing added.
  • Some consider no taste tasty. One mans treasure....... If they have tasty water, that's a really good thing no matter what you think.

  • I set up a similar dual filter system with a "roughing" & charcoal filter first then a final filter. after trying to use that, I switched to two good filters in parallel to get adequate flow.
    bumpy
  • I'm thinking all the filters are slowing it down.
I only run a carbon filter and it doesn't have any effect on flow. Thankfully that's all we need in this area.
