Valterra sewer hose carrier modified to mount under TT frame
Wanted to mount a Valterra sewer hose carrier under our TT frame. They are not designed to do that unless you buy the adjustable 50-94" one but that will only give you max. about 74" in overall length plus you'd have to reach under to open the hatch door. I wanted our new Dominator hoses, 20' long, to fit into the carrier. Two 10' Dominator hoses have a collapsed length of 6'-6". When I do any mods, I want them to look like it was done at the factory.
So I bought the adjustable 50-94" carrier version and set about modifying things a bit. First thing I noticed is that these carriers now come with a hinged door instead of the old twist-on end cap and have "DWincorp." stamped on the rear of the door so Valterra must have bought them out. I wanted a door anyway so that was good to discover.
I cut off the flat mounting flange on the outer saddles at the ends of the tubing and smoothed and sanded them down. There is a gap between the end of our A-frame tubing and stab. jacks that was just large enough to fit the carrier. I bought 2 new Valterra saddles to be able to mount the carrier to the frame. I split the top of the saddle (1st photo) to be able to slip it over the carrier tubing (each half has a slightly different dia. too) and glued them 6" in from the door at each end. Used a piece of 1x1" angle iron to mount the saddles to which in turn are bolted to the 2x2" tubing welded to the I-beams for the stab. jacks. Glued the two halves of the carrier together before bolting in place. (ABS glue and it dries fast!) The carrier protrudes 6" out from the frame on each side and it's easy to access the door. Our forward tank hose dump connection (black + grey) is close to where the carrier is. The new Dominator hose fits into the carrier with ease and has room to spare. Have never used our bumper for storing a sewer hose but now our old red EZ-coupler is in it in case we ever find that 20' of the new hose isn't enough.
