215/75R 17.7 XTR Michelin Tires

Just checking to see if anyone out there has Michelin tires on their fifth wheel. I have had these tires on since 2011 and have less than 5000 miles on them. The side wall are starting to crack on all four ires. I contacted my Michelin dealer and was told that something is going on with Michelin. He says maybe there is a flaw in their tire mix formulas . Michelin knows they have a problem and are saying at this point these cracks are not under any type of warranty or pro-ration. Just wondering if anyone has heard anything about this.

Thanks

Michelin does offer a 6 year warranty against cracking.

They do, but the warranty states specific conditions must exist for environmental damage (sidewall cracking)to be a warranty item. Michelin is very diligent in applying the warranty statement conditions in regards to sidewall cracking....

OP has tire rim size wrong in subject line -these are a commercial trailer tire typically used in low bed trailers of all types. Should be 17.5.
  • I did not know that Michelin made a 17.7" tire. Are you sure that they are not 17.5"? Chris
  • I had six Michelin LT235-80R17 on my dually and they started to crack after 5 months

and it took a month of aggravation and then finally a call to Michelins corporate office/head of customer relations to get them to replace those tires, when they installed the new ones the dealer asked me if I wanted the brand facing out or in,, I told him to leave them out so if these ones rot out everyone can see who made them! These are the last set of Michelins I'll ever own and every vehicle I've had sat on Michelins but the incredible run around I got over what was simply a bad batch of tires really peeved me off!!
  • Just me personally. If I get a set of tires to last me six years on my camper, I'd be tickled pink.
  • I assume you mean LT tires. I have Michelin XPS Ribs and love 'em. I've heard of checking, which isn't an issue.
  • You say you've had them on since 2011, but what is the actual build date? Maybe they're just aging out? It sounds like they spend the majority of their time just sitting, probably about the worst thing you can do to a tire.
