Alpenlite Oakmont axle spring size

Question

I recently broke an axle spring on my 2001 Alpenlite Oakmont while on vacation. I was lucky to limp in to the nearest repair facility that was able to take me in(Camping World)and was able to get repairs. They did not have springs in stock, but I was able to find some nearby (the miracle of the internet). The springs were not the correct size, too big, but they worked in a pinch. As I was on vacation, I replaced all four springs, but did not have room to take one of the old, correct sized springs with me. I would now like to replace the springs with the correct size, but I do not know what size the springs should be. Does anyone on this forum have an Oakmont and could measure the springs, or do you know a source that can tell me the correct size?

I have a larger Alpenlite that has 7000 lbs Dexter axles with the adjustable spring hangers. If yours has the adjustable height hangers with never lube hubs I am fairly confident that you have 7000 or 6000 lbs Dexter axles which any spring shop will have exact replacements for. I broke two of my springs last New Years and wound up replacing all four springs and put an extra leaf on them. My trailer actually rides more stable now and have have peace of mind that it isn't going to break again anytime soon.

I know that on the spring is a soft metal that is wrapped around the spring with the code that will get you the correct spring. But since you don't have it maybe another owner can look at theirs. it is easy to remove. I might not be correct but ours was like A22 but I am guessing. We have a 2001 35 ft Avalon alpenlite with 7000 lb axles.

Having that extra leaf gives a sense of security. I replaced all springs last, well, spring. Went from a 6 leaf to a 7. Figured a 8 would be too stiff &amp; shake things to bits inside. Replaced shocks in the fall. Brakes are on the hit list next.

Thanks for the replies. I have 6000 lb axles. Not sure what make. The new springs have an extra leaf, which is not a problem, but an asset. The problem is that they are too long and the center hanger is tweaked so that it is not centered. I am concerned that this will place undue strain on the shackles, axle and frame and eventually cause failure.

I just need to know the correct length of the springs so I can replace them.

When I replaced my leafs on my 6000 lb. Axles I went from a 3000 lb 4 leaf to a 3300 lb. 6 leaf  there were only 2 lengths to use 25 1/4  or  24 7/8  I had  the longer spring and the one I used was the.shorter because my wheels were so close together and it worked  perfect. Measure you spring with no weight on it  from eye hole to eye hole and if it is the 25 1/4 get the 24 7/8 one. I got mine from etrailer.com and I have not had any problems with them.
