Some folks *always* have excellent results with their choice of brand.
And, others continue to be "brand loyal" even after they've been "burned".
Over the years, there's been good, bad, and ugly - with/for Chevy/GMC, Ford, & Ram (diesel trucks).
My solution on "how to" decide - and make the best informed choice - is to spend time on the "brand specific" forums for all three -
OR - only the Ford forums if you prefer.
There's a couple of excellent forums for each brand of diesel trucks.
You won't find Ram or Chevy folks on Ford forums, and vice versa.
See what type of
problems *owners* are reporting, how they are handled, down time, warranty coverage, etc...:@
Yes, I read about the "nightmares" of/for the 6.0 when I was looking for a new truck in 2005.
And, yes I did have a 1T Ford (6.9) diesel previously.
The problems I saw, made the decision (then) that there wouldn't be
another Ford.....at least in my immediate future.
Anyway, pay special attention to the "HELP" sections for postings by folks who need/want immediate advice & assistance.
