are you towing with a short bed crew cab?

Just bought a Ford crew cab with a short (6 1/2) ft bed. I have a perfectly good 16k reese manual slider that I would like to use by buying the adapter. I've had only extended cab trucks before with no real problems in towing a fiver. If I can do this it would save some big bucks on not having to buy an auto slide hitch. The cougar 5er has the cut outs on the nose cap for turning and the pin box is standard extended style. In fact the mfg states short bed trucks ok. So my question to you is anyone pulling a fiver with a CREW cab short bed and not a AUTOmatic slider?? thanks

Auto-matically?

How do it know???

SG - 2nd only to a thermos (keeps hot things hot and cold thing cold)..;)

.

The King pin pivots on a cam with the 5er. There is a plate on the 5er that makes the king pin hitch plate turn with the 5er. Instead of the king pin turning on the hitch plate. As the 5er turns a cam on the underside of the superglide hitch forces the king pin to the rear of the truck bed. Auto-magically. then as the 5er straightens out the cam forces the king pin hitch plate forward in the truck bed back over the rear axle. check out the video link below.

GMC 3500 4x4 crew cab Denali. Only 4 months old.
Manual slider but when in the maneuvering position hits the tail gate when turning. Did take it and test turn with the hitch in forward position. Can make almost a 90. Stopped a little short of a 90 with a couple of inches to go before hitting cab.
If I think I will need the slide after our next trip I will raise the 5er.

We have a GMC extended cab 4x4 with standard bed, Grand Design fifth wheel with the front cap cut at the corners. have a 16K reese manual slider and never needed it when towing, then one day I tried it for backing and what a difference it made as the pivot point is obviously changed. So long story short, put in at least the manual slider, if needed better to have than not have and need. Good Luck & Be Safe ! ! !

Contact the folks at Terry's Cherokee RV Service on N. Wilson Way in Stockton. They should be able to help you out.

Two years ago they installed my 16K Pullrite Superglide for me and I have been very happy with it. They did it while my wife and I waited, since we live about 60 miles away from Stockton.

I'm pulling a cougar lite with a crew cab 6 1/2 ft bed. No problem and I can get pretty tight with it.

Last post prior to this (Sept 4) - was MAY 14.

Possibly you should have posted back in MAY when the thread was active.

However, maybe the OP is still waiting patiently for more answers to his question...:@

BTW - Nice "gee whiz" photos...:C

I have a 2500 Ram crew cab with a 6 1/2 ft bed. We have only used our slider 2 or 3 times in the 5 years we have had the fifth wheel. The front corners of the front cap are scalloped , so that helps.

My truck has the shorter box. Been no trouble yet towing without a slider. I have a Cougar too. Just be careful backing up. I came close the first time backing...now my daughter watches from the backseat.
