- Jerry_BExplorerI found the correct sockdet size. It is 1 7/16. Torque is 145 to 155 ft lbs. Got the socket and a 3/4 to 1/2 drive reducer at Tractor Supply. Thanks for the posts folks.
- bstarkExplorerSo others will know what's being discussed here; the Dexter Nev-R-Lubes use two of the the taper roller Timken sealed type of bearings opposed and preloaded with compression tension towards each other using the Castellated retaining nut to provide pre-torque.
They have worked very well in my 6 year experience with the Dexter 8K axles. - RAS43Explorer III

Anyone know what size the axle nut is on a Dexter Nev R Lube 7000 lb, 8 bolt wheel? Thanks
Are you sure they are Dexter? Possibly Kodiak?
What does the cap say that covers the bearing nut? - Denny___JamiExplorerIt takes a 1 7/16 socket and they are torqued to 145-150 ft lbs.
Denny - bowebowExplorerI used a 1 7/16 socket. nut needs to be torqued. there should be a small paper ring around axle with spec. I think around 155 to 165# , not sure.
- PuddlesExplorerTry RV parts dept... have always found that a pair of channel lock pliers work ok to loosen and tighten that nut... It may be the same size as automotive..
- BusdriverExplorer IIAnd the best place to buy is tractor supply. They are 3/4 drive so you will also need a 3/4 to 1/2 reducer
- Grady23ExplorerJust send Dexter an E-mail and ask. I'm sure they would gladly help. Include the year make a model of the trailer and if you can look on the axle itself for the part tag. OR ---- Just use a micromiter and measure it -- It's probable
1-1/4 or 1-1/8. - Jerry_BExplorerThe axle Castle nut. The big job.
