BW companion Slider help

Just had my BW companion slider put in. Those of you that have them, what methods do you use to take it in and out.

I had a pullrite superglide that I took in and out with a portable engine hoist.

Watching them finalize the installation. It looks like it may be a little bit of a job getting it in and out.

I like it out when not using so I have my truck bed back.

I would imagine once I loosen the center bolt it would have to come straight up once you pull the lever. Don't know if the engine hoist would allow me to do that.

Any suggestions?
  • E trailer usually have videos of the hitches they sell. Or simply call B&W they are really nice people and will help you out.

    Good choice on hitch!
  • What I use is the exact principle as you described just a different method, it works well. I took 3/4 inch eye bolt placed a square plate at the bottom and threaded a nut on the bottom and top of the plate to keep it in place, the square plate is Just big enough for the jaws once there closed and locked to be used as the center lift point, I get a chain and run it through the eye of the eye bolt and connect it to the forks on my Kubota, I back off the main bolt on the companion and pull the pin. Then I lift with my tractor giving a couple hundred pounds upward lift, the companion wont come straight out because the weight distribution within lifting is not perfect and it wants to bind, I then get a pinch bar I go from corner to corner releasing the pinch point stress and the hitch slides right up and out of the receiving hole. Using the eye bolt and plate combination for me centers the weight distribution as good as you can get making it fairly easy and quick to remove and replace because 4 friends aren't always around.
  • I found a 2-ton engine hoist on sale for $99 a number of years ago and use that to lift my Companion in and out of my truck in one piece. Just loosen up the hold-down and u-bolts, pull the pin, and it comes right out. I =did= have to lengthen the boom a bit to reach the center of the pin. Made a small chain with a plate on it to go in the jaws. Got a 1,000 lb furniture dolly at a Harbor Freight a couple miles from me for $10 and set the hitch down on that to roll around the garage. I figure it paid for itself with many fewer trips to the chiropractor. :-)

Can you post a pic of the engine hoist modification?

Also what size plate did you guys use?

Thickness and side to side. I thinking 4x4x 1/2?

Also how much do you loosen the hold down bolt? Do you grease the pin to make it slide easier?
