Converter Issues??

My batteries were very weak so I plugged my trailer in to my garage power tonight. Interestingly, the lights were very dim and certainly running off the batteries only. In the past, the lights were very bright as soon as the trailer was plugged into shore power. Is this an indication that the converter has failed?

Thanks,

Brad
  • My converter crashed and I bought mine from bestconverter dot com Huge selection and shipped the day I ordered.
  • Check your battery disconnect switch, my 3 yr old will pull mine without me knowing till the battery starts to get weak.
  • Excellent replies. I will look into each. Thanks for sharing!!

Did you notice a 'brightening' of the lights when you plugged into shore power? You can test at the battery via a multi meter; you should see an increase in voltage when the shore power is lit and the inverter starts charging your batteries.

If you don't have any voltage coming out of the inverter you have an issue, maybe a fuse blown.
  • On my WW.....

The 110 feed from the convertor goes directly to the GFI in the master bath, then feeds the rest of the coach.

When that GFI trips, nothing, and I mean nothing receives 110v power.

May want to check and see if yours is wired like this also.

    C-Ya!!
  • Could be, but did you actually have 110 power to run your fridge? Did it switch automatically? Could you use 110 volt things like your toaster or hair dryer when plugged in? Maybe it's the plug or the cord or a fuse or breaker tripped for some reason. The converter is actually fed from a single breaker in the 110 volt panel so the first thing to do is see if 110 is actually there.
