Dry Camp Newbie Question.

We are looking to dry camp tonight since we will be too late to check-in to the RV park we will be at for the next month.

Just figured out though that the AC won't run off the batteries. We do have a 4500w (3600w running) generator with a 30amp plug. We also have a dogbone converter from 50->30 so we plan to try to use that with the generator to give us some air. We have 2 english bulldogs who don't do well with heat, so being in south texas on the beach in the heat will not fair well for them with no AC.

Wondering - is the method I described above correct/going to work?? Are there any alternatives? I saw that the batteries will pretty much only run the fridge, water pump, and lights..?

**edit** we have a '16 sandpiper with 2 ac's
  • Providing you have the correct dogbone connector to plug your RV into the generator, you might be able to run one AC, but definitely not two. I am not at all sure you even have the dogbone connector you need to make the connection to begin with.
  • We can run 1 a/c on our 3000 Yamaha. Requires 50 to 30 amp converter, then another 30 amp to twist lock plug for our generator. If generator has 30 RV style plug, you won't need the second one.

We cannot run any other high draw appliance, such as microwave, hair dryer, etc. unless we turn off a/c.
  • "Just figured out though that the AC won't run off the batteries."

Pretty basic that AC must have plugin power. You need to read up on RV electric systems...120, 12 house and 12 vehicle...and how they work and interact.
  • Your setup is correct but will be limited on what you can run.
If you start tripping breakers just back off a little.
  • I would take all your adapters and head outside asap and try the connections and run at least the one AC as a test. You can then try running fridge and HW heater off the genset to see what it will handle. Truthfully if its just for a night then just use the gen for AC and everything else on LP to lighten the load.
